How to grow long, healthy hair

Many of us want long, beautiful tresses and sometimes, it feels very out of reach.  For a long time I lusted after long locks but couldn't seem to achieve them.  Finally I think I've figured out the best way, certainly for me anyway, to long beautiful hair.

Diet

Firstly, as much as its probably the last thing any of you want to hear, eating well and drinking plenty of fluids, is one of the main keys to healthy hair success.  Hair is made up of protein and you need to be eating enough of it for your body to put energy into making hair, (and nails).  Now I'm not talking eating all the protein powder you can find, just eat a healthy, balanced diet, your body and hair will thank you for it, and will look all the better for it.

Shampoo and Conditioner

Secondly, invest in good shampoo and conditioner, find the one that works for you, everyone has a different hair type and whether you're prone to oily roots, frizz or dry brittle ends, there is a shampoo out there for you, all it takes is a bit of searching to find the right one, but trust me its worth the effort.

I personally love the Kukui Oil Shampoo and Conditioner by OGX, they're supposed to help with frizz and boy do they, these babies have saved my hair from the frizzes!  They don't irritate my scalp as a lot of shampoo and conditioners do and they feel so luxurious when you use them.  You can buy them at Boots.

Hair Brush

Fourthly, choose your hairbrush wisely.  I love the tangle teezer, its so good at getting through, thick, unruly hair, but I have it on good authority that even for thin hair it can make a big difference.  I could never go back, buying that brush has been the best thing I ever did for my hair and has made my haircare routine so much more bearable.  (watch my video for more tips, linked at the end)

Heat

Thirdly, heat is so bad for your hair, and whilst I'm not going to pretend I always let mine dry naturally, its not a bad idea to let nature do its work every once in a while.  If you have the time, try it, I've found my hair is a lot shinier and healthier looking, for giving it a break sometimes.  Try a french braid once the hair is almost dry and sleep in it, you might be pleasantly surprised with the results.

On the topic of heat, make sure you use a good heat protectant before applying those damaging styling tools.  I passionately love the Beauty Protector, Protect and Detangle leave in conditioner, it smells divine and leaves your hair feeling soft and nourished and keeps those curling irons, or straighteners from reeking havoc and damaging your delicate ends.

Products, Frizz and Healthy Ends

To control frizz and boost shine and moisture I rely on two products, the Umberto Giannini Silky Curls Smoothing Balm, although it says for curls I use it both when I wear a straight (or as straight as my hair ever gets) or curly style, to keep my hair frizz free and manageable.

The other favourite of mine is OGX Renewing Argan oil of Morocco Reviving Dry Oil, it leaves my ends feeling luscious and wonderfully healthy.

Then to finish my style I use just a tiny smidgen of the Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly, Finishing Touch Cream.  I put a pea sized amount into my palm and rub it over my hands before gently applying to the hair, it smells beautiful and leaves my hair soft and much more manageable.  Very sadly it seems to have been discontinued although I'm sure you can find a similar product in stores that will do roughly the same job.

I talk more in depth about all of the products and how I use them in my youtube video, I actually recorded it a few months back but forgot to upload it, so if you're interested you can go ahead, watch and enjoy :)
